How to calculate line usage |
Piano consisting of three staves: left hand, right hand, chords, vocal line and lyric line equals five lines. Organ consisting of three staves: left hand, right hand, pedals, chords, vocal line and lyric line equals six lines. Guitar consisting of chords and notation/rhythm slashes equals two lines. Drums equal one line. Percussion equals one line for each instrument stave. Harp equals two lines. Brass and Woodwind equals one line per instrument, even when block written. Choral equals one line for each vocal part, even when block form. Lyrics equal one line when score is block written, however when vocal staves are separated, then the number of lines equals the number of vocal separated staves. A typical cabaret arrangement consisting of four rhythm and three front lines would amount to 12 lines, therefore attracting the $11.00 per vertical bar rate. |
These rates are for translation into English from Latin, French or German only. Other languages need to be translated by other outside contacts through sub-contracting and are subject to quotation on application. |
Literal translation per word (i.e. for benefit of audience, congregation or other informational use only - not suitable for singing) - $0.30 per original language word. Paraphrased translation (not necessarily totally literal, however retaining the overall meaning) suitable for singing - $0.45 per original language word where minor modifications only required to enable lyrics to rhyme or fit a rhythm. Paraphrased translation (not necessarily totally literal, however retaining the overall meaning) suitable for singing - $0.70 per original language word where more major modifications required to enable lyrics to rhyme or fit a rhythm. This is where the other language can be so poetically constructed as to make a totally literal translation almost impossible. The English would be almost a total rewrite so as to retain the original intention as much as possible, however the resultant translation could be a major departure from the original language, just to make the music singable. |
These rates are for the provision of audio files on a CD/DVD or USB stick to enable musicians to hear simulations of the work and/or their parts to assist with the learning of works.
